Don's Dabblings
Our Reaching "R"  and Evangelist "E" teams met last Tuesday night. They were busy writing 42 cards and notes, making 7 telephones calls, praying for 35 individuals, and making 4 personal visits.
As we come to the close of 2008, let me again that our team leaders: Anne Singleton, Mary and Gary Bennefield, Wayne Elders, and Bryon and Teresa Brown. A big thank you goes to our cooks who have provided delicious meals: Susan Davidson, Stephanie Bennefield, Lounell Rodd and Jennifer Donald. A big hug and thank you to so many faithful team members who make this ministry possible. In addition, I wish to thank Jo Edwards for help in preparing CARE cards and  organizing other material. Kudos also to Marie Wood and Louise Dillard for their help throughout the year. I am blessed to have so many dedicated members to assist me!
"You shall call His name Jesus for He will save His people from their sins." (Matt. 1:21) Christians can miss the point of the Christmas story if they aren't careful. We can become so charmed with the story of a baby that we grow sentimental about it.
The real question is this: Is our Christmas still only a story about a baby or is it more. A story about a person into whom the baby grew,  who can redeem the world from its sins, and who calls us into partnership with His great and mighty purpose?
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph, he said, "You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save  His people from their sins" (Matt. 1:2 1). It is only as we see the birth of Jesus in the light of His crucifixion and resurrection that we are able to grasp the full meaning of Christ's coming.
