A Word from the PastorThanksgiving blessings come in the grandest of ways. A warm handshake and kind greeting from a friend, a gift, a card, phone call are all pleasant reminders to be thankful for our friends. Paul wrote in Philippians 1:3, "I thank by God upon every remembrance of you". Being thankful for our friends is one of the wonderful ways we can express our feelings for them. Being thankful for our friendship is one way of understanding the importance of people in our lives. Thankfulness for our friends is one way of keeping us from taking them for granted. After all friends are the human reminders that Christ loves us. Being thankful for friends will keep us focused on others rather than ourselves. If we are focused only on our desires our world becomes smaller, and more selfish! Friends keep us on a broader scale in life. Our greatest asset in life are those who make us better people. They challenge us. They encourage us. They come along side of us and help carry our load in life. Life would be far more difficult without friends. This season of thanksgiving, let you friends know how much they mean to you and express your appreciation to them. Love, Your Pastor Don's Dabblings CARE is not meeting this week. We will resume our CARE ministry in December. Our schedule for December is as follows: Tuesday, Dec. 2 Crusaders "C" Ambassador "A" Teams Tuesday, Dec. 9 Reaching "R" Evangelist "E" Teams Please encourage our guests who attend our worship service to complete a CARE card. We do need our members to complete CARE cards identifying those to whom we need to minister. As I thought about this Thanksgiving season, I remembered one of my favorite episodes in the Bible. It is the story of Mary anointing Jesus with perfume as recorded in John, chapter twelve. Jesus praised her for her gift. In a matter of days, Jesus would be crucified. The great thing about her gift was that she was before time in her gift. There would be others who would anoint His body after death. So when death came to Jesus, his fingers still have the fragrance of the perfume given by Mary. That happened because Mary had been on time in giving expression to her gratitude. Certainly, it was pleasing to God because God is a lover and love always wants to be appreciated! How we need to be on time in giving thanks. Happy Heart Our December meeting, Tuesday, December 16 will be at Lake View Steak House. We need for you to sign up for this meeting so that we can provide the number to the restaurant. There will be sign up sheets passed around in the adult classes and there is also a sign up sheet on the bulletin board across from the Sunday School Office.
