Issue 02, Year 2009 10 NEW YEAR'S QUESTIONS FOR THE CHRISTIAN Let's start the New Year off with a renewing of our vows to our Lord. As the New Year begins, consider these questions: 1. How faithful was your church attendance this past year? 2. What were your happiest Christian experiences? 3. Do you feel that serving Christ is worth the effort? 4. Have you served others to the degree that you have been served through the years? 5. Do you believe everyone has a share in the Lord's work? 6. Do you place the Lord's favor above personal satisfaction? 7. Do you seek God's will for your life in daily prayer and meditation? 8. Will you use your God-given talent by volunteering to serve where needed in our church's ministry? 9. Will you pray faithfully that the Lord will call you and others to find a place of service in our church? 10. Will you pray faithfully for our pastor and staff as they seek God's wisdom in leading our church? Now that you have answered these questions,Would you be willing to make some of these New Resolutions? During the year I resolve to:Honor God's desires above my own. Live for Christ in the world. Trust God with a strong faith. Remain faithful to my church. Witness to the lost. Cultivate whatever talents God has given me for His glory and His church. Let's make 2009 a better year than 2008.

A Word from the PastorHobab-have you ever heard of him? I had not until a few years ago. He is one of those Biblical characters that we quietly read and forget his name. His story is found in Number 10:29-31. He is with Moses up to a point in the journey from Egypt to the promised land. Then Hobab decides to return to his own land. Moses invites him a second time. There is no response from Hobab to continue the journey with Moses and there is no other mention of Hobab in the Scripture. Here is a man who had a great opportunity and promising future, yet decides to return to old country and old life. The Lord offers us new opportunities in a new year. We can grow spiritually, develop new relationships as life can be enhanced with a deeper walk in faith. All these wonderful opportunities await us as we are willing to move forward for Christ. My prayer for our church and lives is that we move forward in Christ, in growth and not want to return to our past, just for the sake of comfort and security. As you check your prayers as a Christian from year to year, did you grow in 2008 or return to old way of life? Did you give more, sacrifice more, serve more or did you find yourself like Hobab. Just wanting to return to a land of slavery? May this year be a year of blessing and productive maturity for you and yours. Love, Your Pastor Don's Dabblings I trust everyone had a joyous holiday season. We certainly had some Christ-centered worship experiences. Here's hoping your new year resolutions included continue participation in our CARE Ministry! Let us all make this a successful year of caring. Make a commitment to be at CARE on Tuesday nights. If you are not a part of our CARE ministry, we would love to enlist you. Remember, it is one hour a month. Let me again make a plea for you to complete CARE cards on Sunday indicating individuals to whom we can minister. As we begin a new year, let us focus on reaching out to the un-churched. Charles Swindoll in his commentary in First Thessalonians, Chapter 4, has some words of wisdom worth repeating. New Christians are watching and wondering, so conduct yourself with wisdom. Don't let your actions contradict your witness. Be an example of what you believe even before you share it verbally. Non Christians are listening and learning, so speak your words with grace. No put-downs, insults or suggestions of superiority are needed or wanted when you convey your faith to an unbeliever. Non Christians are individuals and it is important we respond to them with dignity and sensitivity. As servants of the One who gave His life for every human being, we need to treat each person as a distinct individual who is greatly loved by God. Our shut-in of the week, beginning Sunday is Tom Hollingsworth, Magnolia Manor, 411 Ansel Street, Greenville, SC 29601 I need to correct a mistake in the recipe for Lemon Whippersnappers that was included in out Christmas mail out. The frozen non-dairy topping should read 1– 8 oz. carton instead of 1 1/3 oz., etc. Love in Christ, Don Kelley Ballard's Ballads OPEN CHOIR will be on Jan. 25th. Everyone is invited to join us to sing Beulah Land. Be in the choir room at 10:15 am to practice. You don't have to normally sing in the choir to join us. Let's fill the choir loft. The Youth Praise Band will be playing this Sunday Evening. Bring a friend to join us. Servant Evangelism is our way of making a difference where we are planted. The Sunday School Leadership ask that each class do some form of service to our community, each quarter of the year. If you need ideas, please let us know. People don't care how much we know until they know how much we care. Let me thank Mike and the youth for ministering to several families during Christmas. Thanks also to the preschoolers who greet us once a quarter with their parents. Let us know some of the ways your class is reaching out to the community. When you are finished with your Sunday School Literature, please bring it to the church and put it in the plastic container in the Faithful Workers classroom. This literature can be used for other churches that don't have money to purchase literature. Serving for Jesus, Gary Michael's Youth News [Chillipeppers Conference – January 23-25] The youth will be attending a conference in Pigeon Forge, TN that will challenge them to live the life that God has called them to. The cost will be $60 per youth which includes the conference ticket and hotel with continental breakfast. Each youth will need money for lunch, dinner, and any activities they might want to do. We will leave the church at 4:30 pm on Friday and return around 2:00 pm on Sunday. I will have a brief meeting for all parents after the morning worship this Sunday to give out all of the information on this conference. We will meet in the choir room. . In Him Michael To Top |
