Issue 03, Year 2009 Prayers for our Nation Give thanks for the gift of Salvation for those who place their faith in Jesus Christ.Give thanks that we live in a nation in which we have the freedom of speech; pray that we would be responsible stewards of that freedom and that we would never take it for granted. Lift up President-elect Barack Obama, Vice President-elect Joe Biden and the new and returning elected officials as they take office. Pray that they would seek and follow the Lord's guidance as they take office. Ask the Lord to motivate Christians throughout America to sincerely and daily pray for our nation. To Top |

After so long with virtually no rain, we have had some good rain. We thank God for that along with all of our numerous other blessings. It seems a long time since we have had a monthly meeting at the church, but we will have our January meeting in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. It will be a covered dish luncheon and you are asked to bring your favorite dish. Food Group #2, Betty Wood and Doris Reynolds and their group, will furnish the bread and drinks and be in charge of the kitchen and dining room. They ask that their group meet on Monday, January 19th at 12:30 to prepare for the meeting. For our devotion time, Rev. Donel Kelley will be our speaker and Theron Fowler has the program for us. He has Tony Serrao coming to minister to us in song and as the Lord leads. You will want to come for the inspiration of these two men of God. Just in recent days we have experienced the loss of one of our dear ladies, Mrs. Orelia Steading, who has not been able to be with us for some years. Following twelve years in the nursing facility, she now can rejoice. Continue to remember her family, her brother Robert Smith and her sister, Evelyn (Mrs. Jim) Edwards, who are in our church family. A Word from the PastorI want to make you aware of Baptist Men's Day that will be help February 15, 2009. Coach Steve Euote from Riverside High School will be the speaker for the morning Worship Service. I had the privilege of meeting him some time ago and he impressed me as being a man who loves Christ and seeks to build character among your men. There will be more details later concerning this special day. Let me encourage our Prayer Ministry to continue to go into the presence of God with your prayers on behalf of the church. Pray for members, staff, for the ministry of different groups. Ask God to send a renewed spirit among us. God bless you as your pray. Love, Your Pastor Don's Dabblings Our Crusaders "C" team enjoyed chili and cornbread provided by Susan Davidson. They ministered effectively, writing 37 cards and notes, making 7 telephone calls, praying for 51 individuals, and making 9 personal visits. In reviewing our CARE Ministry in 2009, I was impressed with the totals for the year. Postcards and letters written: 1, 214 This does not include the cards written each week to shut-ins (260 cards). Telephone calls: 132 Prayers offered for individuals: 2, 040 Personal visits made: 309 Wow! Give yourselves a high five! The field is still "white unto harvest" so lets keep caring! I read about a man and his wife who owned and operated a pawn shop for 40 years. Following the death of her husband, the wife decided to move away. In appreciation to the customers who had made life so good for them, the wife sent a card to everyone who had an item they had pawned and offered it back free of charge. The sign in the window read: "Pawn Shop Closing: Claim What Is Yours." God has told all believers in Christ to claim what is theirs. The Sermon on the Mount lists a number of wonderful gifts that are ours: the Kingdom of heaven (salvation), comfort in mourning, the prospect of inheriting the earth, spiritual fulfillment, mercy, fellowship with God, adoption into God's family, and an eternal home in heaven. And many, many more! Our shut-in of the week, beginning Sunday is Mildred Penland, 100 Belton Ave., Greer, SC 29650-1613 Love in Christ, Don Kelley Ballard's Ballads The Men will be going to Pauline McPherson's this Saturday, January 17th at 8:30 am to work on some house repairs. Be in the choir room at 9:45 am if you want to sing. Let's fill the choir loft. In February we will have a class at 5:00 pm for Women, taught by Lisa Mason. We will be letting you know the topic soon. Serving for Jesus, Gary Michael's Youth News Youth News Chillipeppers Conference – January 23-25 The youth will be attending a conference in Pigeon Forge, TN that will challenge them to live the life that God has called them to. The cost will be $60 per youth which includes the conference ticket and hotel with continental breakfast. Each youth will need money for lunch, dinner, and any activities they might want to do.
