A Word from the PastorPastor's Column "The King's head is in the hand of the Lord, He directs it like a watercourse, where ever He pleases." Prov 21:1 We, the people of this great country have a new President. Our nation has embarked on a new journey-into some areas that many Christians are not comfortable with. For me, the concern now is not racial or even political but lies in the area of principle. I fear that the areas where right has been able to maintain some degree of strength will begin to loose strength. I am afraid that homosexual rights will be advanced over the desires of the Christian Church. I am afraid that countless numbers of embryos will be cloned and killed for medical research due to embryonic stem cell research-all of which is covered in the cloak of "saving lives and promoting cures." I am deeply concerned that the advances that have been made to stop killing babies through the selection of conservative Supreme Court Justices will be stopped. These are only a few items that cause me concern. However, there is hope! I do not find hope in the government, but I find hope in God. He is still God who sits on His Throne! God's people must shake themselves from their slumber! We must pray for our President. Ask God to move his heart toward righteousness. God holds nations accountable to to justice. He holds citizens responsible as well. As we make this new journey with our new President, one day our nation will discover that we have forsaken a Holy God and His Word and find ourselves in a wilderness of confusion and spiritual emptiness. Here is where the church has a wonderful opportunity to point an empty society to the fullness of our Savior. The church's light needs to be very bright during the next few years. God bless you and God bless America! Love, Your Pastor Don's Dabblings Don's Dabblings… Following some delicious homemade soup prepared by Stephanie Bennefield, our Ambassador "A" Team got busy writing 14 cards and notes, making 11 personal visits. We seem to have a problem catching people at home on Tuesday nights. Billy Garrett and Mike Cole made some productive visits. Because of an incorrect address, they were able to visit the Stewart family in our community and were welcomed warmly. They also visited with one of our members whose wife has been sick for some time. Pray for our CARE Ministry that God will open doors of ministry for us and that we will get in where He is at work. We would like to welcome Jennifer Chisam to our CARE Ministry. Jennifer will be a part of our Reaching "R" Team. Psalm 8 is one of my favorite Psalms. It was written by King David. In the Psalm, David rejoices that God enables us to reign in life. How then do we reign in life? 1. We must belong to Jesus Christ. We must be among those who have received "abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness. (Romans. 5:17) 2. We must yield ourselves to Christ. 3. We must depend on the Spirit of God. We must realize the power of the Holy spirit in the life of a yielded believer. It was the Holy Spirit who enabled David to face the enemy bravely and defeat him completely. 4. We must live for Gods' glory alone. That is the basic emphasis of this Psalm-"how excellent is Thy name in all the earth" (Psalm 8 1, 9). It is the work of the Holy Spirit to bring glory to Jesus Christ. 5. We must trust God in the everyday needs and problems of life. Our shut-in of the week, beginning Sunday is Joel Elders, 280 Northway Drive, Landrum, SC 29356-8721 Love in Christ, Don Kelley Ballard's Ballads Ballard's Ballads Open Choir is this Sunday, January 25th. He will be sharing about how we can better do Ministry in our church and community. The lunch will be provided for you.
