A Word from the PastorJesus said, "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13: 35 Our society is crippled by the substitutes for the genuine. When something of value is manufactured the copiers hurry to produce a substitute for the item. Garments, handbags, electronics and designer jeans are only a few of the items that re reproduced under the name of the genuine It is easy to see the real from the fake. The common characteristic of the fake is that it never meets the standard of the real. The love that Christ offers us is true and genuine. His love is selfless and sacrificial toward people. His love is evaluated by the price tag it carries, His life. It is easy to tell His love from fake love. His love has only one motive and that is to lift us up to Himself. His desire is to make our lives more like His and to bring us into fellowship with Him The real love that Christ has for us is the medicine for our human hurt and spiritual need. Indeed, this love is the remedy for a troubled soul. He seeks to give us His love and invite us into a loving relationship with Him. Valentines Day is a great reminder of the love of Christ who offers us real love. Happy Valentines Day Love, Your Pastor Don's Dabblings Another night at CARE featured our Crusaders "C" Teams. They enjoyed hot dogs and baked beans and delicious dessert prepared by Susan Davidson. Afterwards the team got busy in writing 21 notes and cards, making 2 calls and making 7 personal visits. Help us by giving CARE cards to visitors in Sunday School or church. When these cards are completed, we have a permanent record of their visit. This is Valentine season and this means an emphasis on love. Unfortunately, some love is nothing more than possessing. For example, a young man falls in love with a girl. He then wants her entirely for himself. He wants to hold her close to himself. For him, that is not love, it is possessing. On the other hand, there is God's kind of love-Agape. Its meaning is not found in possessing, but in just the opposite-in giving. "For God so loved the world that He gave…" (John 3:16) Why did God make this world? Why did He make me? I have been a bother to Him and time and time again I have disappointed Him. The real answer to why He made any of us is not because of what we can do for Him, but because of what He can do for us. "Oh how He loves you and me." Our shut-in of the week, beginning Sunday is Gwen Nodine, 115 Cottage Creek Cir., Greer, SC 29651 Love in Christ, Don Kelley Ballard's Ballads Men's Choir this Sunday as we celebrate Baptist Men's Day.
