A Word from the PastorConflicts are a reality of the human experience. A hundred years after the end of their legendary feud, the Hatfields and the McCoys recently got together for their first reunion-and they will be leaving the shotguns behind. "We are going to be on our best behavior," said reunion chairman Bo McCoy, a Waycross, Ga., minister whose ancestors took part in the 19th century shooting war between the two families that left 12 people dead and cemented the image of Appalachia as a place full of hillbillies with guns. Two thousand descendants are expected to attend, as well as thousands of others, including the governors of Kentucky and West Virginia. The only confrontation this time will come during a tug-of-war and a softball game between the families. If the Hatfields and McCoys can solve their problems-surely the church can do even better. Our unity and the impact of the church depends upon it. Love, Danny Don's Dabblings Don's Dabblings Our reaching "R" team ministered effectively writing 18 cards and notes, making 7 telephone calls, praying for 30 individuals, and making 8 personal visits. Again, many thanks to those who are faithful to our CARE ministry. We have the registration cards for those who attended our Outdoorsman Banquet and we will be following up those prospects. We will need additional help to make the necessary visits. It is increasingly obvious that people judge Christianity by what they see in Christians. Jesus said: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven." (Matt. 5:16). Then why is it that we as Christians often seem to be carrying baskets around with us to cover up the light that Jesus says should shine forth from our lives? Some possible answers could be worry, fear, indifference or laziness. Commenting on the light, it is not for us to ignite the flame or supply the oil. Our duty is to guard against anything that may obstruct the outshining of the light. Our job is to release the light and reflect the Lord Jesus Christ.
